A Worthy One
I turned my back on the helpless, turned a blind eye to the weak.
Chose the most convenient lame excuse, their problems are too much for me.
For I am only one, and I struggle to survive.
Now I’ll forever know the shame for the selfish. It’ll haunt me ‘til I die.
I criticized the rich and royal. Said they could but won’t do their part.
Spoke in poison words about them all. Those words controlled my hateful heart.
Scared myself until I knew it was I who should learn to care.
For if I could kill my conscience, I’d leave it lying there.
Now from you I hear an answer, or a clue there is a light.
You have been the unsung hero in desperation’s home tonight.
One by one you came to thousands. Now before your work is done.
Take the cynic from my soul; let me join you. Help me be a worthy one.
Take the cynic from my soul; let me join you. Could I be a worthy one.
